Equipment Blog

The record “Emporium” as the name suggests is more than just records. We carry a great selection of equipment and accessories associated to vinyl, as well as personal audio stuff, such as record cleaning machines, new stylus or cartridges, tonearms, turntables, & vinyl “tweeks.” Also, personal listening gear such as ear buds/phones, DAC’s, amps, and a nice seclection of home Hi-Fi stereo equipment and speakers.

For those with older turntables, “See our website/Facebook page’ to get into one of our monthly “turntable” clinics to rejuvenate or tune-up that old vinyl spinner!

So this blog will serve to accomplish many things from record reviews (and CD reviews) for those who wish to own the genuine article, to equipment reviews to keep you up-to-date on all the latest stuff.

Excerpt from Marantz USA website about their PM5005 pictured here first:

    60+ Years of Audiophile Heritage

Founded in 1953, Marantz has a long and rich history of designing audiophile components that have been embraced by music lovers and critical listeners around the world. Because Music Matters so much in our lives, the PM5005 carries on our long tradition of delivering a superlative music listening experience

...and its true: Many people ask me...

    Why Marantz?

I get this question a lot, why do I carry and recommend Marantz? After all aren’t all the receiver companies about the same? Truth be known? Not really! Here’s why; Take Audio Video (AV) receivers for instance; It’s not so much a matter as to whether other brands are capable of making ones which sound good, of course they can, and do. The real matter is where the brand focus is? Most brands are very focused on the Home Theater end of the industry, and of more concern for those of us interested in sound quality, they are focused on “having something for everyone”.  For this to happen in the U.S. market, it means having many models at small price increments starting for just a couple of hundred dollars. (Marantz has just 2 Network Hi-Fi receivers starting at $499.00). The vast majority of other companies philosophy is that the average U.S. consumer won’t notice sound quality anyway, because U.S. consumers are focused only on “price”. So they are totally caught up in covering all the popular bells and whistles and having each model at the “lowest price”. The problem with ‘feature/price based’ philosophy however, is that inevitably there will be a lot of “duds” in their ranks. Marantz on the other hand does business very differently, in part because of who they are, and where they come from. Marantz began as a U.S. company more than 60 years ago, and competed head to head with discrete Hi-Fi companies like McIntosh. Both companies were, and still are, regarded as making some of the finest sounding audio equipment available. Classic Marantz gear being just as coveted as classic Mac’s. There are a lot of AV dealers around, but if you notice, the few of us that are old school and actually care enough about sound quality to offer higher end product, usually carry “Marantz”. For us, it’s a line we can trust to offer up popular features, while still making sure that every amplifier they build is the best sound quality that it can be in a given market. “Never” compromising on this!. It is for this reason that us old school audio dealers carry Marantz! Marantz also fills the better dealers checklist of other factors we want to have, such as their exceptional build quality, reliability, customer service and support! It is a “no headache” brand, and line that “we know” will sound at least as good, and in most cases better, than anything the competition can throw at us. Frankly, what more can you ask for?
