Music Review, Jazz, Bassist Stanely Clarke, CD Mack Avenue Records

Published 2014-09-21

Genre: Jazz, Bassist Stanley Clarke, Available on CD by Mack Avenue Records

Stanley Clarke, Bassist, famous, groudbreaking guitarist, KDHX radio feature artist

There is a definite advantage to volunteering at KDHX.  Curt on his show this morning played a new track off of a CD by Stanley Clarke called UP that will be released on September 30th. on Mack Avenue Records.  The station gets them early for air play and I previewed several tracks from the disc.  The track Curt played was "I Have Something to Tell You Tonight".  I previewed a couple more tracks and all are good but this was the best I heard.  He mixes in some new stuff with several tracks he recorded with Chick Corea and Return to Forever.

Here's what Mack Avenue Records has to say:

Legendary bassist Stanley Clarke considers his upcoming Mack Avenue Records release, The Stanley Clarke Band’s UP, to be the most energetic, rhythmic and upbeat album that he has ever done—and with more than 40 solo albums under his belt, that’s saying quite a lot.

Clarke’s signature bass virtuosity and technical acumen is present throughout, but the enjoyment he had in making this album is also apparent. Unlike his predominantly acoustic bass work on the last few albums, UP is almost equal parts electric and acoustic bass.
